New Hall Cup and Saucer (1818-1820)
A New Hall cup and saucer made in 1818-1820.
This large sized London-shaped tea cup was made after the transition from hard paste to soft paste at the New Hall factory. It is decorated with an embossed basket weave pattern and coloured in cobalt blue bands with a fine tracery of gold creating 2 cartouches on the cup and 3 on the saucer. The flowers are hand painted in yellow, rose and light blue. The cup and saucer are marked with the pattern number 1944. The handle of the London shaped cup is rounded with an out-facing spur at the bottom and is different from the typical New Hall London shape. The cup measures 87 mm diameter and is 58 mm high.
