Spode Imari Pattern Trio (1810-1812)
Spode significantly improved the early soft paste porcelain formulae used by Bow and Chelsea into a more refractory white bone china that was adopted by English potters progressively from about 1808 to 1815. This trio was made between 1810-1812 and it is decorated in an Imari style that copied earlier works from Arita in Japan. The trio has a bute shaped cup and not a tea bowl with a can shaped coffee vessel. Coffee cans were popular in the first quarter of the 19th century. The pattern number is 967. The tea cup measures 81 mm diameter and is 57 mm high. The coffee can is 64 mm in both dimensions like many of the contemporary cans.
