Worcester Spiral Tea Bowl (1785)

A tea bowl and saucer which were made in soft paste porcelain by Flight of Worcester in 1785.

Towards the end of the 18th century, the technique of moulding tea bowls/tea cups and saucers with a spiral moulding was fashionable. The exact number of spirals around a vessel and the shape of the spirals gave a good indication of the factory of manufacture. In this case there are 24 spirals in a right to left direction from the top rim. The hand painted decoration of garlands of small flowers in a multichrome palette of colours was very popular in the middle of the 19th century, almost 100 years after this tea bowl was made. The bowl measures 85mm in diameter and is 52mm high.
