My Collection

The pages in this section illustrate just a few items from my collection.

Each main page is devoted to a different time period, and contains thumbnail photos and brief descriptions of several items. Click on each item's thumbnail to see a larger photo and a more detailed description.

The first main page covers the period from 1760 to 1815. This period represents the main development of the British porcelain industry, when a wide variety of experimental pastes and glazes were used to try to copy Chinese porcelain.

After about 1815 nearly all British porcelain was made from a bone china formulation, developed by Bow and by Chelsea in the third quarter of the 18th century, and significantly improved by Spode at the end of the 18th century.

The second main page covers many years from 1818 to 1875, and represents the best era of hand-painted quality English bone china.
